A Nigerian priest and his elder brother were taken hostage by kidnappers and murdered in the Archdiocese of Kaduna in Nigeria.
On May 11, the archdiocese's chancellor for Kaduna, Father Christian Emmanuel Okewu, issued a statement in which this disclosure was made.
In total submission to the will of God, Father Joseph Akete Bako's death is announced with a heavy heart.
“Between April 18 and 20, his abductors abducted him," the statement read.
"On March 8, Father Akete (38), a parish priest at St. John's Catholic Church in Kudenda, was kidnapped from his home."
It is reported that the circumstances surrounding his death have been carefully verified, as well as the date of the incident, hence the timing of notifying the family.
Father Okewu, the chancellor, said, "Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndangoso of Kaduna, extended his condolences to Jos' immediate family and the full community of St. John Kudenda."
Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as they are finalized.
Until then, continue to pray for his peaceful repose and the comfort of the bereaved community in the Archdiocese of Kaduna," the statement added.
