Theological Background:
During his public ministry, Jesus cured the sick and comforted the afflicted. Jesus even raised the dead to life. “ Come to me all you who labored, I will give you rest” said Jesus. Jesus healed both body and soul. The Church continue this healing ministry of Jesus in the administration of the Sacraments and in the service of the payers. Jesus came to live life and life in abundant.
Commission functioning in the diocese:
This diocesan commission for Health Pastoral care was formed in the first diocesan Synod in 1997. A pastoral clinic was built a new in the Cathedral compound receiving sick people coming from the villages and transfer them to the respective clinics and general hospital of Pathein. The dispensaries and village clinics are opened in some parishes of the diocese to be at the service of the people afflicted by the disease. The homes for aged are opened for the elderly religious both men and women. The community health care is taken by the parish running dispensary placed under the care of religious Sisters. In time of emergency like Cyclone ( Nargis), floods, the diocesan Health care teams make immediate response for relief and rescue services.

â— To have a parish based dispensary established in all parishes for primary health care
â— To have health personnel and community health workers trained for the community health care
