Theological Background:
Jesus commended his disciples to go to the whole world to announce the Gospels teach people the commandments. And baptize those who believe in the Good News. This is a mission mandate of Jesus and the Church continues implementing this. The Church exists to evangelize. Evangelization is part and parcel of the existence of the Church. Every baptized person is a missionary ( cf; Vatican II). The new evangelization is encouraged and promoted today to continue the mission of evangelization with new hearts and new ways of evangelization. The diocese of Pathein is taking part in this new way of evangelization.
Commission functioning in the diocese:

The commission worked hard in preparation for the Great Jubilee Year 2000 under the directives and guideline of Apostolic Letter of Pope John Paul II on Thread shore of Third Millennium.
