History: St. Francis Xavier’s Church ( Myan aung parish )
According to the ancient document, one acre of the compound was bought by bishop Begandet in Myang Aung on March 1816. In 1890 it was recognized as a green land dedicated to the mission. The still existing first chapel was built in 1927. Unfortunately without permission from the church it was turned into tennis country by local authority in 1950. But parish priest of Hinthada had tried to negotiate with the authority, and in 1955 the chapel was repaired and dedicated for worship again. For the second time without knowledge of the church the place was turned into testis court. Before the establishment the sister of St. Francis Xavier arrived in Myan aung 17 may 1914 under the arrangement of Bishop John Gabriel. When Bishop Charles open this parish in 1998. |
