History: Immaculate Conception Church ( Zaungdan parish) After 3 years stay at thinganai, Fr. Brigand derected his steps in November 1862 to a place about 4 miles to the west of a large village called Okpho. HE was invited to proceed there by some Karen who had their relation in Thinganaing and by some chain in that locality. As regard its situation the place cirst called Myit Tagone and noe Zaungdan, is as well selected one. The whole compound consist of at least 7 areas of land. It was a completely vast spot when Fr. Bringand come to pitch his tent upon it. Less than 10 years later it was handcome fround plated with fruit trees. There started with three principle buildings. The church with its pair of towers and two schools. Fr. Bringaud had just completed the church when he died on 7th may 1908. His assintant Fr. Herog continued his work. Up to now 14 parishes had been labored there. |
